What you do not find, however, is very much material on what their true
value is to your business. For the purposes of this article, we define value as being both relevant and
converting.
Many online businesses forget one simple premise when it comes to keywords.
That premise is "what is the customer thinking?" It is no secret that you can use a keyword generator to come up
with thousands of possible keyword combinations for just about any product, service, or idea. But how many
companies can afford to set up ad campaigns for that many keyword options? The answer is very few.
And just as bad is why would you want to set up that many campaigns if they do
not pull in traffic and end up in conversions?
It is true that some online ventures can use this shotgun approach to marketing
and get results, but the vast majority of online businesses would do better if they simply sat down and
concentrated on what the customer was thinking when they did an online search.
In order for you to make the most of your keyword efforts you have to know your
product or service inside and out. Then you have to step out of your sales shoes and get into the customer's
shoes. Ask yourself, what would I type into a search box if I were looking for this product or
service?
The word "relevant" is often used in conjunction with keywords in that your
text ads must connect with a webpage that offers relevant information on those keywords. But there is another
principle associated with the word relevant and that has to do with do with your customer's needs and desires.
When your keywords are relevant to what they are looking for, you will have taken the first step to getting more
traffic.
Taking this to the next logical step (web page content), your relevant keyword
ads will lead to a page that is equally relevant to their needs and desires. By offering your visitor
information that is designed to address the issues that brought them to your page in the first place, you will
achieve more conversions.
Many online ventures believe that if they can just get a few thousand visitors
to their site they can make one sale after another and get rich in time at all. This is simply not true. No one
is going to open their wallet and send you money until you have earned their trust and shown them that you have
the product or service that they need. By using your keyword energy to help guide them to your site, and then
offering them accurate and relevant information on what they are looking for, you are well on the way to earning
that trust. And this is the true value of using powerful keywords.
